Rorys Story Cubes
The Creativity Hub
Rory and Anita of the The Creativity Hub, are local games creators and this very analogue game has just been nominated for Toy OF The Year in the US, running against LEGO.
They wanted a commercial to help promote the Cubes, but more than that to engage people. In a world where we interface all the time, Cubes asks people to use their now near obsolete imaginations, to tell stories themselves.
The commercial needed to promote, but also inform, engage and create behavioural change. Over two days we shot 3 scenarios; children, families and friends playing with Cubes. We're very happy with the results, a warm, genuine and unique commercial. It summed up the thinking behind the Cubes.
The Shoot
The Shoot
Shot over two days in Belfast we were very lucky to be joined by Chris Martina s DOP.
We started the shoot with the car sequence. The very cold morning gave us some surprisingly beautiful light ad our two novice actors were brilliant Luckily they were Story Cube old hands. Not easy to get two boys, Director, DOP and camera equipment in the car, even if it was parked. When we saw the rushes we knew we had captured something beautiful.
The Shoot
Each roll of the dice holds a key or icon, and kicks off the users imagination. We wanted the stories to be seen by the audience. Kris holds up the placeholder, the animation is dropped in later, No Means No poster makes a cameo.
Short sequences mix 2D and 3D animation to tell the stories of each of the sequences, all based on real rolls od the di.
Beautiful work by our animators
